Omaha Hi-Lo: Playing Your A-2

A lot of new Omaha Hi-Lo players make classic mistakes and lose a lot of money in the process. One of the most common beginner mistakes you can avoid easily is playing a starting hand of A-2 using the wrong Omaha Hi-Lo strategy. There are certain aspects you need to consider in order to be able to maximize the opportunity, and we are going to discuss them in this article.

First of all, a starting hand of A-2 in Omaha Hi-Lo is something that you need to play carefully. Get past the illusion of having a strong starting hand and approach the situation wisely. Instead of raising the bet right away, you should limp to see the flop and limit your risks carefully.

After seeing the flop, you should be able to determine if the A-2 you start the round with is indeed a good starting hand. If the flop shows 2-5-4, for example, you cannot make a low hand because your 2 is paired. This is certainly a problem if you have raised the bet pre-flop, so as you can see staying on the safe side is the best way to go.

You can start luring your opponents into putting more money into the pot after seeing the turn. At this point, you should be able to generally asses if you have a hand strong enough to win the round. Increase the pot size gradually before winning the round; you will be so much more profitable yet better protected if you use this approach.
