Understanding Omaha Hi-Lo

Not many poker players consider playing the game of Omaha Hi-Lo because this game looks complicated at first. What you need to do is understand Omaha Hold’em and you will be able to understand Omaha Hi-Lo easily. This article will discuss several basic aspects of Omaha Hi-Lo to help you discover this new casino gaming opportunity.

Unlike Omaha Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Lo has two winners in almost every round. That is why the pot money gets divided 50-50 between the player who won the largest hand possible and the player that gets the lowest possible hand. This is also the reason why most new players overrated A-2 as Omaha Hi-Lo starting hand. The starting hand is superb nonetheless, but that doesn’t mean you can bet recklessly and expect to be profitable.

The rest of this game is played similarly to the Omaha Hold’em. Each player will get only 4 cards while five community cards are presented on the table. You can only use two of your four cards and three of the community cards to construct a hand. Should you win the high prize while another opponent gets the low prize, for example, the pot money will be divided among the two players.

After the showdown, make sure you check quickly if the hand you are showing is strong enough to win the pot money. If the answer is a YES, then you will receive winnings right away and the round starts over; the cycle continues until you leave the table.
